Washable Rugs
One of the most popular trends we're seeing right now is the washable rug. They're great to use in entryways, bathrooms or kitchens where dirt and spills are commonplace. They also work well in homes with kids and pets.
This red Oriental runner rug from GelPro (@gelpromats) appears to be vintage, but it's not. It has built-in grip technology to prevent it from slipping, is soft underfoot and stain resistant. But the minute it needs to be cleaned, simply pop it into the washing machine.
Shag Rugs
This is the perfect example of creating a room around a rug. Carrie (@islandgirl24_7) used this contemporary blue rug as the anchor for her living room, accessorizing with matching velvet ottomans and throw pillows in the same hue.
Surprisingly, this plush shag rug is made of 100% polypropylene. We traditionally think of polypropylene being used for flat outdoor rugs. But the use of this material has come a long way and you don't have to sacrifice easy maintenance for comfort. Simply vacuum regularly to prevent shedding and spot clean stains with a carpet cleaner.
Cozy shag rugs work well in bedrooms and living rooms. We recommend using a rug pad to prevent slippage.
Jute Rugs
Neutral palettes and Scandinavian-inspired spaces are some of the most popular looks in interior design today. One of the chicest ways to emulate this style is with natural fiber rugs made of jute, sisal or seagrass. This beautiful living room by Alex Lovallo (@alexlovallo) has a linen sofa, fabric-covered ottoman and a large jute rug layered on top of honey hardwood floors.
The thick woven detailing in this rug provides texture and warmth to an all-white space. To keep your rug looking like new, vacuum it often and spot clean with mild detergent.
Black and White Rugs
From traditional to modern homes, black and white rugs add dramatic flair to any room. They also work well in farmhouse, bohemian or Moroccan-inspired spaces. In the left image, Natasha Rae (@natashamohler) used a large striped wool and cotton rug to add visual interest to a living room filled with warm wood and wicker accents.
In the right image Naiara Wirema (@naiara_smiles) decided her dining room needed an update. She added an ivory and black geometric-patterned rug underneath the table and chairs, as well as the matching runner down the hallway. An iron chandelier and an accent wall painted black tie the look together.
Indoor or Outdoor Rugs
Rugs that can be used indoors, as well as outdoors are gaining in popularity. They're ideal to use poolside or in a high-traffic room, such as a living room, entryway or kid's playroom. Parents and pet owners will love the ability to take these rugs outside and hose them off when they're stained or dirty.
These rugs are often made of polypropylene or polyester. The rug in the image is made of 100% olefin yarn, which is soft, durable and UV-resistant to prevent fading.
