The holiday season is upon us and with all the spending, it might be hard to justify buying all new Christmas decorations each year. There are simple things you can do to refresh your home decor without breaking the bank. Here are four inexpensive ways to refresh your Christmas decor for under $100.

Switch Up Your Christmas Tree Ornaments for Under $30

A mom and her young son decorate a Christmas tree together while wearing matching holiday pajamas.

The Christmas tree is the star of your indoor holiday décor. Swapping out a few ornaments is an easy way to make our decorations feel fresh. Whether you prefer a themed Christmas tree, stick to a certain color palette, like classic red and green, or fill your tree with sentimental ornaments, adding some new elements refreshes the whole look.

Shatterproof ornaments are your best friend if you have curious pets or small children. They’re also a great way to get your kids involved in decorating without worrying about breaking glass. Place any precious or breakable ornaments near the top of your tree so they’re out of reach. Christmas tree picks that stick into the tree, rather than hang from the branches, give your tree dimension and help fill in any bare spots. Finish it off with a new tree skirt or collar and a tree topper to upgrade your Christmas tree for the holiday season.

Add Garland or a New Wreath for Under $50

An entryway decorated for the holidays with garland, a wreath on the door and Christmas trees.

Lush garland just screams holiday time. Drape it over your staircase railing, across the top of your mantle or down the middle of your table. Go with a pre-lit version to add some extra warmth or keep it simple with an unlit garland. A flocked garland adds a cozy farmhouse feel, while a bright green garland provides a timeless touch to your indoor Christmas decorations.

A new artificial Christmas wreath, either on your wall, in the windows or on your front door helps boost the holiday spirit in every corner of your home. If you plan to hang wreaths in your windows, create a loop of fishing line or thin thread around the top of the wreath and hang the string from your window latch or on a suction cup with a hook.

Redecorate Your Mantel or Tabletop for Under $45

A corner of a living room decorated for Christmas with garland, stockings and stacked presents.

Add décor to your mantel or tabletop to pack a bunch of holiday decorations in a small area. Choose a few strategic places in your home to show off your favorite pieces without making the room feel cluttered.

An easy way to add Christmas decorations to your mantel is to decide on the larger pieces you want to display first, like a group of candlesticks, gold deer statues, nutcrackers or a mixture of each. Don’t be afraid to play around with the arrangement and try out a few different variations before choosing the one you like best.

Symmetry is great but having a few different items in various heights on the mantel adds interest. Decide on a loose color scheme, like pops of red and white, for a cohesive look. Then, add a strand of garland or sprigs of greenery to fill it in the empty spaces. Finish it off with decorative stocking hangers or clear command hooks to hang your stockings over the edge of the mantel.

For tabletop décor, choose items that are low, so they won’t block your view or impede conversation. Keep it simple with a grouping of pillar candles and a table runner down the center to add a dose of holiday cheer without filling your table with items you’ll need to move every time you have guests.

Change Up Your Outdoor Christmas Décor for Under $100

A front yard decorated for Christmas with a holiday bells, a freestanding angel

The first thing you and your guests see when they get to your home is the exterior. Boost your holiday curb appeal with a few new festive Christmas decorations like a wreath for the door, a fun doormat and yard décor. Place inflatables across your front yard. They’re great for homes without a lot of storage because they fold up and don’t take up a lot of space. Or opt for décor that is easy to set up like holiday bells and a free-standing pair of prancing deer.

Add a strand of new string lights across the top of your house and lit yard stakes lining your walkway. A few carefully placed decorations go a long way in making your home the most festive one on the block.
