If you're ready to refresh or remodel your bathroom, changing out your bathroom hardware is a great first step. Updating to a more modern style or a new finish is easy to do, affordable and can be installed in a weekend. Here are a few of the bathroom hardware accessories we recommend:

DIY Installation
Many of these installations require a few simple tools. Here are some projects you can do yourself, including how to install:

Mirrors and Medicine Cabinets

Bathroom Mirrors
Another way to modernize your space is with a bathroom mirror. Shapes include oval, round, rectangular, square, arched, hexagon and more. Bathroom mirrors come with numerous features that make getting ready in the morning easier. They include:

  • app and Bluetooth compatibility
  • dimmable lighting
  • a touchscreen with built-in lighting and a clock
  • built-in anti-fog technology to keep the mirror clear
  • tilting or floating mirrors

Medicine Cabinets
Medicine cabinets are a great way to have a mirror and storage in one. Select from a cabinet that can be installed on the wall's surface or recessed between the studs for a streamlined look. Cabinets can be frameless or select one with a frame that matches the other accessories in the bathroom. Other features include:

  • fog free technology
  • soft close doors
  • adjustable shelving
  • lighted mirrors
  • outlets for shavers, hair dryers and more

Bathroom Lighting
Good lighting in a bathroom is particularly important. When getting ready in the morning, you need the right lighting to put on your make-up or shave. If you want to take a relaxing bath in the evening, dimmable lights can help to set a calming mood. If you're refreshing your bathroom, consider an updated style to match the other hardware and accessories. You can switch out or add the following type of lighting to your bathroom:

Accessories, such as soap dishes, toothbrush holders and tumblers are a simple, stylish way to update your bathroom countertop. Matching sets are available for a cohesive look.

Other Accessories
Don't forget these necessities that'll make mornings easier, keeping the bathroom clean and organized. We recommend choosing items in the same finish as your other bathroom hardware.

Step out of the shower and into a warm, luxurious bath towel and onto a soft bathroom rug or mat. To tie the look together, pick a matching shower curtain. From white waffle weave shower curtains to florals, geometrics, stripes and more, you can add personality to your space. Hang the curtain from a shower rod that matches your other bathroom hardware.

Style and Finish

Finish
One of the biggest decisions you'll need to make when selecting your bathroom hardware and accessories is the finish. Do you want to simply update to a more modern aesthetic, but keep the same finish? Or are you ready for a completely new look?

Finishes include:

  • stainless steel
  • brushed nickel or polished nickel
  • chrome
  • bronze
  • black
  • gold or brass

Style
Traditional bathrooms will often use bronze, stainless steel, polished brass or chrome. The hardware feels more formal and has more detailing. Modern bathroom accessories typically have clean lines, sleek edges and come in black matte, gold hardware or brushed nickel finishes. Modern Farmhouse enthusiasts are using black matte or bronze hardware that has a more rustic feel. Transitional spaces can vary from polished nickel to gold.

Good to Know

Mixing metals or finishes is feasible -- if done correctly. Ensure that one metal is more prominently featured, while the other acts as an accent.

For example, if you want to use matte black and brushed brass hardware in a bathroom, then select matte black for your faucet, vanity light and bathroom hardware. Then add in small touches of brass in the cabinet hardware, soap dispenser and toothbrush holder.
